Gotze’s Win Brings the Perfect World Cup Finale

Germany was crowned World Cup champion for the fourth time in their history thanks to Mario Gotze’s extra-time goal against Argentina. German supporters and players alike could not hold their emotions at the Maracana as this year’s World Cup got the winners and winning goal they think it deserved.

During this final match against Argentina, Gotze has demonstrated his acquired and tested techniques and an impressive calm. He has managed to chest down Schurrle’s pass and give a left-foot finish aiming to give a penalty shootout at only seven minutes away from the end of the game. This was not just a German win, it was the beginning of a platform of years of success to come for the German player.

Despite Lionel Messi’s attempts, Argentina could not respond to Germany’s attack and this brought the World Cup to the latter. 24 years ago in Rome, Germany had won against the same opponents. This win also marks success for Joachim Low’s side as the first European team to be winning the trophy in Latin America.

The general atmosphere after Germany’s win was joyous and celebratory. Notable figures such as Benedikt Howedes and Per Mertesacker were leading dance troupes across the turf in Rio while “Get Lucky” from Daft Punk was playing in the background. However, no luck was involved in this fourth German World Cup victory. This win has been years in the making. The 1-0 final score over Argentina is simply the proof of a strategy based on previous embarrassments at consecutive Euro games in 2000 and 2004.
